Jan Vormann’s Dispatchwork

by Jennie Ambrose

Lego repairs, Bocchignano, Rome part of Jan Vormann's dispatchworkThe great thing about city breaks is wandering around taking in the different cultures, the history and the amazing architecture (in between shopping of course).

There are some fascinating buildings around the world that have been built with great care and consideration by talented tradesman and have lasted the test of time and Mother Nature but are starting to show their age.

German artist Jan Vormann has spent the last three years traveling the world fixing some of these crumbling walls and monuments. Instead of bricks and mortar, though, he’s used Lego!

Lego repairs, Toulouse, FranceHe started his Dispatchwork project in Rome but you can now find the shiny, colourful plastic of his Lego building repair work in many buildings, both old and new, throughout the world.

One of my favourites is this one in Toulouse, France, which required quite a considerable amount of Lego repair. So Jan and his team constructed little buildings inside the brickwork.

Jan has also visited Berlin, filling the holes remaining from World War II damage, which caused quite a stir… in a good way, as he ended up with helpers of all ages including children, parents and grandparents alike who all added an individual Lego-style touch.

In fact, Jan’s Dispatchwork project has become so popular that people all over the world are encouraged to send photos of their Lego repairs to Jan’s website, which you can view here.Lego repairs with a little in Brooklyn, New York
