Communicating happiness with Winkball.com
by Shelduck Shelford
Being a virtual being that only lives on the Web… I know some pretty cool places to go. The latest of these has to be Winkball, which despite only being launched in September of this year, has already amassed over 100,000 users that include popstars, politicians and sporting icons. The brainchild of creative computer scientist Dr James Ohene-Djan, of Goldsmiths College, and Duncan Barclay, company founder of Correspondent.com, WinkBall.com aims to put creativity, fun and user personality back into online communications. By allowing people to express themselves using video in private and public online spaces, WinkBall.com enables everyone to have a video voice in Digital Britain.
WinkBall.com offers users a range of free video communications services, including private video messaging, video blogging, public and private group video walls, and the new “Push to See and Talk” live messaging system…. and best of all, it’s completely free! Dr James Ohene-Djan said: “WinkBall.com seems to have captured the public’s imagination: we’ve quickly transformed from a technology company into a media company driven by the public’s desire to have their say and communicate. Thousands of people have communicated their views using our video walls, whilst many others have sent video messages to loved ones and created video blogs of their lives.”
With over 500 hours of video messages from members of the public and personalities including David Cameron, Terry Venables, Stephen Fry, Levi Roots and Dizzee Rascal the site really has caught the public’s imagination with members uploading short video messages, as well as ‘vox pops’ filmed by WinkBall’s team of 50 reporters who cover events around the country.
The site intends to encourage online debate through its public video walls, allowing users to post their views and opinions on specific topics as video message discussions… it’s great fun… why not give it a go!
