Commercial Director: Simon Lewis

by Jennie Ambrose

A scene from Red C Marketing's new DRTV Commercial for Marisota shot by Simon Lewis for The Gate Films. The commercial was concepted by Red C Marketing, Advertising Agency, Direct Response Advertising Agency and Online Marketing AgencyYes it’s still freezing outside, personally I’m getting a bit fed up of scraping my car every morning but not to worry, we’ve got something that might brighten things up a bit…

Marisota is warming up our living rooms and launching us into this spring summer fashion season with its new DRTV commercial. With a little help from Director, Simon Lewis and The Gate Films, we’re confident the ad will do the trick and shake you out those winter blues.

The summer season campaign is always hard to produce as the concepting, planning and filming all take place over the festive period, when the warmth and sunshine of summer couldn’t be further from your mind while you’re dithering in sub-zero conditions in Manchester. But with a team full of great ideas it wasn’t long before we cracked it and brought to life our theatrical-themed concept, ‘The Marisota Show’.

With the storyboards approved, we met with Simon and his team who were really on board and enthusiastic about the concept, which introduces the three new Marisota girls – Lisa, Jenny & Debbie and their different size USPs.

The biggest challenge was finding a theatre that wasn’t too big so the girls wouldn’t get lost on stage. Simon finally found ‘Droylsden Little Theatre’ which was just perfect for obvious reasons. With that sorted, we then had to tackle the challenge of hiring the backdrops.

With all this in place, the plan started to come together. Simon’s treatment was exactly the feel we wanted to achieve – the summer of ’76 – warm and carefree with a lovely retro feel, using soft fill rather than harsh theatre lighting.

With the camera locked off on a wide shot, we just let the girls enjoy themselves using the stage as their playground. They were all great, giving the natural and confident sparkle we were looking for.

Each Marisota girl was given her own backdrop on the stage. There was Lisa, having a picnic in the park in her beautifully fitting cloths, Jennie was dancing in a ballroom style scene showing off her sparkly, comfy shoes, while Debbie was picking flowers in a garden in her perfect fitting trousers. Each Marisota girl used their setting to illustrate a sizing problem they were each facing. Then all three girl relax in the garden, laughing at Lisa showing off her miracle fit swim suit.

The final scene sees all the girls taking a bow after their perfect performances. The solution to their problems are revealed – by shopping with Marisota, they get fabulous fitting fashion for all their specific needs.

And that was a wrap. One that left us with a final product we’re all very happy with here at the Red C. We are also really happy with the efforts put in by Simon – he understood exactly what we were trying to achieve and made sure that’s what we delivered…
