A bit of anarchy!

The winning logo design

Loud music, bad attitudes, safety pins and spiky hair. Does that ring a bell? Yes, I thought punk was a thing long left in the seventies too, until the Creative Department was approached by our Senior Art Director’s brother-in-law who is in a punk band called Hated Til Proven. They needed a kick-ass new logo to go on their posters and t-shirts for the next big gig… and since we’re always up for a creative challenge we duly obliged.

Fun little jobs like these help to get the creative juices flowing and it’s great to do something a bit out of the ordinary. So, we asked ourselves, what does a punk logo need? After the obligatory raid on Google images and through our books on album covers, I sat down with a colleague to compare our findings and initial ideas.

We had fun sketching and producing a lot of wild stuff, including a depiction of Simon Cowell with a gun shot wound in his forehead (no, that wasn’t one of mine) but it went down well with the band, so I’ve heard. Then, after receiving a lengthy lecture on punk music and it’s history from our resident music guru, I had a clearer picture of how to crack this one.

As it needed attitude and to challenge the status quo, an obvious route would have been to take something that represented the establishment and give it a punk twist.
So to avoid treason or stepping on the Pistols’ toes, I decided to use something representing the antithesis of the hard-edge punk image. Cute chubby babies and fluffy little animals.  It just needed punkifying… oh yes, a nice big Mohican will do nicely. It seemed to ring a chord with the band and they loved it.

So, I am very proud to say, that my baby with the funky hairdo is to feature on gig posters and t-shirts worn by Hated Til Proven!

Thanks to Jen and her brother-in-law for giving us this opportunity… and in true punk fashion:

So long and f*** off!
