How online retailers can take advantage of the next ‘Big Freeze’

Snow brings traffic to a halt in the UK which meant online retailers saw a boost in sales as shoppers stayed at homeNo matter how hard you may have tried, not many people managed to escape the ‘Big Freeze’ that hit Britain a couple of weeks ago. The whole country pretty much came to a standstill when snow and ice covered the UK, in what was some of the worst weather we’ve seen in thirty years.

Businesses and schools across the country were forced to close when roads became impassable and public transport ground to a halt. Even us hardy folk at Red C struggled to get into the office, with only those that come on foot making it here. With so many people off work, you’d have thought the high street would be bustling, but figures from Footfall indicate that shopper numbers on 5th January were down 13.5% on last year. 53 of the 285 stores in Meadowhall shopping centre, Sheffield were closed on this day, and The Trafford Centre in Manchester only managed to open half of its stores and restaurants - before closing the entire complex at 4pm. LinkedIn logo from Red C Marketing's Blog Posting about the professional's social networkLinkedin is often referred to as the business equivalent to Facebook but through the power of web 2.0 technology Linkedin makes it easier for users to do much more than just catch up with old colleagues! The power of this social networking site can often be underestimated.  Linkedin has created an online network of more than 8.5 million experienced professionals from around the world representing 130 industries.

You may have seen the requests arrive in your outlook inbox, along the lines of “Bob Smith wants to add you to his network on LinkedIn” , you recognise Bob, you once worked with him and so you click “accept “and without realising it you have a profile space on Linkedin.

A campaign that changed the face of Electioneering and Political Fundraising

President Obama Campaign PosterOn October 29th 2008 a 30-minute infomercial entitled ‘American Stories, American Solutions’ aired on virtually all of America’s TV Networks. This infomercial was the glittering jewel in Barack Obama’s Presidential Campaign and garnered him over 30 million viewers and significant news coverage around the world… largely due to the $3 million it cost to air.

Obama’s Campaign, though, was newsworthy for more reasons than just this 30-minute infomercial. He was the first Presidential Candidate since John F. Kennedy to embrace a new medium successfully. In Kennedy’s case it was television… in Obama’s it was Web 2.0.
