Is it just me, or are adverts more irritating these days? All you want to do after a long day’s work is to come home, put your feet up, and relax by watching a little TV. But just when you’ve gotten comfy and begin to unwind, suddenly you’re assaulted with blasts of ‘GO COMPARE! GO COMPARE!’ and you know you just have to get up and go to the trouble of making yourself a brew, just to avoid the whole experience.
Sound familiar?
And it’s not just Go Compare. Thickly accented meerkats plague our screens; break-dancing newsreaders promise to buy our cars from us. Excitable people in coffee shops tell us that a computer system was their idea. Are you irritated yet?
50+ women would like to have fun with fashion again. That’s what JD Williams discovered when they conducted a research panel with prospects and customers of their That’s My Style brand. So when it came to creating the DRTV ad for the Spring/Summer 2011 collection, making customers feel confident with fashion again was something they were keen to push.
It’s regarded as one of the greatest sports events in the world with over 100 million viewers tuning in. Yet despite all the pre-game build up and talk of who will win there are two things that are just as big as the actual game itself… the Superbowl half time show and what will be showing in the advert breaks!
Looking over from this side of the pond it’s hard to understand why Americans are so obsessed with what will be showing in the advert breaks of a sporting event. I mean, no one over here gets obsessed with what will be shown in the advert breaks of the FA Cup!
Manchester based full service agency, Red C has created a new 30 second commercial for Hoseasons, starring model, actress and TV presenter Denise Van Outen. The ad, which airs on Boxing Day is the first time back on our screens for Hoseasons since 2007.
Created by Red C’s Creative Director, Julian Gratton and Copywriter, Stuart Clark, and directed by Chris Gaffey from Mob Films. The ad sees the Legally Blonde star walk, cycle and dance her way through a variety of different Hoseason holiday properties.
When I was a kid I had a friend who lived next door whose dad was in the Territorial Army. The best thing, as far as I could see, about having a dad in the Territorial Army was that he would come home on a weekend in an old Army Land Rover… an Army Land Rover that was perfect for firing-up our boyhood imaginations.
You see, this was not just any Land Rover in our eyes… it was a Nazi Land Rover! A Nazi Land Rover carrying the Ark of the Covenant to a secret lair where it would be opened in some bizarre ritual. Cue then lots of walking down the side, sliding underneath and jumping on top of this battered old vehicle as my friend and I took it in turns to be in intrepid archaeologist… Indiana Jones!
TV ads. I have to say… I love them. They are the main reason I got into this business in the first place… to create some arresting TV Advertising that my mates might talk about down the pub. One thing that has always infuriated me about TV Advertising, however, has been the inability to really effectively target them like you could other forms of advertising.
Well, it looks like those little niggles I have could soon be a thing of the past, thanks to the thing that has been nicknamed Smart TV. Its real name is Targeted Substitutional Advertising (TSA) and it looks like it could be the thing to deliver accountability and personalisation that digital media advertisers have enjoyed for years.
Everyone at Red C today is chuffed to bits after hearing that our TV Commercial for Cottages4you has been nominated in the ‘TV Commercial Over 30 Seconds’ category at the 2010 Roses Advertising Awards. Attended by around 400 key individuals from the advertising industry, the Roses Advertising Awards allows the creative community the opportunity to demonstrate and prove their innovation and creativity.
The nominated advert aims to highlight the benefits of a self catering holiday by focusing on the experiences guests take home with them. Customer research carried out by HCG showed that the main features of a cottage holiday were relaxation, freedom and enjoying being ‘back with nature’. The scenarios depicted in the 40 second advert reflect these feelings and capture the essence of a cottage holiday.
Yes it’s still freezing outside, personally I’m getting a bit fed up of scraping my car every morning but not to worry, we’ve got something that might brighten things up a bit…
Marisota is warming up our living rooms and launching us into this spring summer fashion season with its new DRTV commercial. With a little help from Director, Simon Lewis and The Gate Films, we’re confident the ad will do the trick and shake you out those winter blues.
The summer season campaign is always hard to produce as the concepting, planning and filming all take place over the festive period, when the warmth and sunshine of summer couldn’t be further from your mind while you’re dithering in sub-zero conditions in Manchester. But with a team full of great ideas it wasn’t long before we cracked it and brought to life our theatrical-themed concept, ‘The Marisota Show’.
Earlier this week I gave a talk on digital video and how advertising agencies are changing to facilitate a wide range of video needs that are required by clients. From high budget brand TV adverts to medium budget DRTV adverts right to low budget web-video… the demand is increasing and now’s the time to invest in skills and training.
I gave the talk on behalf of GBM at ‘Band on the Wall’ in Manchester and have split it into three parts of around 10 minutes each. Thanks to GBM and everyone who came to the talk, I hope you found it informative… I certainly enjoyed putting it together.
Parts two and three can be viewed by clicking the red button below.
Anyone who has ever visited the Creative Department at Red C will know that we love our music… and there’s nothing more we like than discovering some new sounds to tap our little feet to during the working day… that is until Dawn makes our ears bleed by putting on some awful rave radio station like Energy 98.
The band Urusen have just supplied the music for our recent TV Commercial for Cottages4you, and as well as the track ‘Now that she has flown’, that features in the advert… they have some other great tunes as well… which is why we thought we’d do a little piece about that as we also quite like listening to them to help our creativity.
