Red C has created a new marketing campaign for a joint partnership between VisitEngland and cottages4you. The campaign, which will promote self-catering cottage holidays in England’s countryside and coastal locations, is set to launch on Boxing Day.

The TV advert, which cannot be revealed yet, will run through the key January to March booking period and is aimed at families, particularly focusing on cottages located in the countryside and on the coast. It will be supported by newspaper advertising, online advertising, direct marketing and radio.

Red C feature on BBC’s Newsnight

by Julian Gratton

Julian Gratton of Red C on Newsnight's feature about cigarette advertisingAs you’ve probably realised, at Red C we’re quite keen on this blogging lark. It’s a great way to share our views and thoughts on a wide range of subjects from email marketing and cigarette advertising. It’s nice to know people read our blogs and enjoy them, it’s even nicer to know that sometimes they can create some fabulous opportunities.

So there he was, our Managing Director & Creative Director, on his way to a client meeting. The phone rang, he didn’t recognise the number but he answered it anyway (he’s a kind Chap like that) and put it through to hands-free (important bit that just in case the Police read this).

The songs made famous by TV adverts

by Julian Gratton

The front cover for the music track Spaceman by the band Babylon Zoo which was made famous by a Levi Jeans commercialBack when I was a student, there were a couple of songs that everybody seemed to go gaga over. The first was by a band called Stiltskin entitled ‘Inside’ and the other was by an act called Babylon Zoo whose song was called ‘Spaceman’.

Both of these songs are notable for the fact that they became so well known in the UK because they were first aired to the British public via Levi adverts. In the case of Spaceman, the interest in the track resulted in it going straight to number one, where it stayed for five weeks. The track also went to Number 1 in the single charts in twenty-three countries and at the time Babylon Zoo held the record for the fastest selling single for a UK debut artist.

Memorable television advertising jingles

by Steve White

A screen grab from the TV Advert for Um Bongo. Just one of the many jingles liked by Red C Marketing Account Director Steve WhiteI have a question for you.   What do ‘Um Bongo’, ‘R Whites’ and ‘Shake n Vac’ have in common?  Well, if you’re an 80s child, like me, the answer will be obvious. The answer is each of these brands has had hugely memorable advertising jingles, which I’m sure you could probably hum along to even today.

Let’s try it.  All together now; “R Whites Lemonade, I’m a secret lemonade drinker, R Whites, R Whites”

Over the course of the years, I’m sure there can’t be a single person who can say that they haven’t had a marketing jingle stuck in their head.  I for one have been driven near mental by having Go Compare’s annoying tune implanted in my skull for days on end, but do they care?  Do they heck as like.

Commercial Director: Phil Taylor

by Julian Gratton

The darts player Phil Taylor, not the Commercial Director Phil Taylor who recently shot a TV Advert for Cottages4you on behalf of Red C Marketing, Advertising Agency and Direct Marketing AgencyBefore we go any further… no… the 14 times World Darts Champion is not moonlighting as a Commercials Director… the Phil Taylor we’re talking about is far taller, skinnier and has considerably less hair! Phil recently finished filming a new advert for us for Cottages4you… an ad that everyone here at Red C is incredibly proud of and was brought to life by both Phil and Sharon Gunnel, the Producer at Velvet.

Our first introduction to Phil was through his reel which immediately grabbed us for his clever subtle use of humour and ability to capture some lovely moments on films as well as getting some memorable performances from his actors. On meeting him I was instantly sold by his passion for both our concept and his desire to stay true to my original idea and deliver an advert that had high production values and quite simply and beautifully converted a singular message in a memorable way.

The making of our cottages4you TV Ad

by Julian Gratton

I love it when a plan comes together

I love it when a plan comes together

It was that great leader of men Hannibal Smith who once said… “I love it when a plan comes together”. And that sums up perfectly how I feel about our TV advert for the holiday cottages brand cottages4you. It took  a large number of talented people to create the 40 seconds of film that is embedded within this posting… and to give you an insight into how we ended up with the advert we did… I thought I’d tell you the story of the commercial’s creation.

From the original client briefing to some insights into the creative process and the ideas we presented you’ll hopefully see what went in to creating the final concept that went before the cameras. I’ll then look at the filming process as well as the work that went into the post-production and resulted in the final commercial… which is hopefully enticing people up and down the country to book a break with cottages4you.
