It’s a sister kisser! Account Handing 15 : Creatives 15

by Steve White

Red C's Finance Director, Mark Dowds, is The Equalizer... in the latest game between account handling and creative at Red C Marketing, Advertising Agency and Online Marketing AgencyThere’s been a lot of talk recently about Spain’s sophisticated brand of ‘tip tappy’ football.  But, let’s be honest, it’s not proper football is it!  Last night’s game was all about just that; ‘proper football’.

Prior to the match Account Handling held their first ever tactical team chat where Adrian outlined his three point plan to defeat the ‘evil’ creative department.  Leigh and I actually thought this would consist of taking Lee, Stuart and Keithy P out of the game, but in actual fact they were rather sensible strategic suggestions.  I won’t give too much away but point 3 was asking Leigh not to “shoot at the goal”, but instead to pass the ball to the more “skilled” members of the team.   Classic!

Our new look Style Bible emails and web presence

by Natalie Martin

The introduction to one of our redesigned Style Bible emails that are part of our effective email marketing campaigns for FGH.We have been producing a monthly e-newsletter for our home shopping client Freemans for a few years and it’s called the “Style Bible”. The purpose of the newsletter is to position the brand as a fashion expert and to give the customer value added content in the form of videos and advice. It also needs to look different to the rest of the email plan (whilst retaining Freemans branding) so that a customer recognises it and looks forward to receiving it. At the beginning of the year we decided to revisit these aims and decided it was time for a re-design.

I was delighted to be put in charge of this and have really enjoyed the challenge. We have updated the look of the newsletter to make it look fresher and feel more like an editorial magazine. Each month I work with both Freemans and the Red C studio to produce a Style Bible that is jam-packed with news about the latest fashion trends and bodyshape advice. Getting under the skin of the customer is important when it comes to briefing and as someone who is interested in fashion; it’s definitely enjoyable because I get to research the latest looks and trends!

The photography of Emma Hack and her living canvasses

by Katie Atkinson

A living canvas by Emma Hack, as featured in Red C Marketing, Advertising Agency and Online Marketing Agency 'We Like' article.I’ll be honest with you. I don’t usually spend much time looking round for new artists or unusual pieces of artwork. However last year I came across the artist Emma Hack, and instantly fell in love her work.

She uses body art on human bodies and blends them into detailed backgrounds to create intricate and fascinating photographs. Through a lot of dedication and hard work her career has developed from children’s face painting to makeup artist to a body illustrator.

Internship at an advertising agency – a student’s perspective

by Joanne Dutchak

Time flies when you're having fun. Student placement, Joanne Dutchak, enjoys a Red C night out with our other student placement Shitha! The phrase ‘time flies’ is testament to my experience at Red C. It’s been six months since I left and I still miss the place!

Before embarking on my annual festival trip to Glastonbury in the summer of 2008, I was elated to find out I had secured the Junior Account Executive placement. However, panic soon struck! As a student with no relevant, practical business experience I was naturally overwhelmed and nervous as to how I could make a positive contribution to Red C. Those insecurities soon disappeared when I realised I was surrounded by people (both in the account and creative departments) who were willing to help, advise and guide me if need be.

Our Alien Insurance emails voted one of the ‘10 best April Fools’ Day hoaxes on the web’

by Julian Gratton

Alien Abduction Insurance from Swinton? Nope, it's a hoax email created by Red C Marketing, Email Marketing Agency and PPC Agency ManchesterAt Red C we firmly agree with Dr Seuss and what he wrote with regards having fun…“It’s fun to have fun, but you have to know how”. And we certainly had some fun with one of our clients, Swinton Insurance, when we created an email that promoted Alien Abduction Insurance.

Obviously, this isn’t a real product. It was just a bit of fun that we thought we would have on April Fools’ Day. And it was so much fun that the technology news website, Techradar.com, voted our hoax email campaign one of the 10 best April Fools’ Day hoaxes on the web alongside Google’s Animal Translator App and Virgin Media using ferrets to lay broadband cables.

How to earn your spurs in email marketing

by Stuart Clark

The incredibly talented Fabregas scores against some shoddy football team named Spurs. Steve may not know a good football team when he sees one, but he does know a good email marketing campaignHe may be a Spuds Spurs fan, but Red C Account Director Steve White is not completely useless. He knows an awful lot about Email Marketing for one thing. So when he gave me a 700-page document from MarketingSherpa called Best Practices in Email Marketing I thought to myself, this is probably worth reading.*

MarketingSherpa is a research firm that specializes in tracking what works in all aspects of marketing (and what does not.) Their goal: to give marketers of the world the stats, inspiration, and instructions to improve their email marketing results.

According to their Research Manager Stefan Tornquist this guide was written “to provide one-stop guidance on building a ‘best in class’ email program, whether you’re managing an enterprise level marketing department or a small business.”

Old stylie vinyl records

Old stylie vinyl records

As a child of the 80s, I’m old enough to remember when buying music meant a trip to the local record shop, browsing through vinyl collections and being mesmerised by the cover art. If you were lucky enough, your chosen album would come with ‘extras’ such as snap shot photography taken during a live concert, maybe a small bio of the band members and more often than not, the lyrics to all your favourite songs.

As we approached the digital age, records became CDs, which to me, never had the same impact. Sure there was the additional CD booklet, but they lacked the tactility of records, and the brilliant photography lost some of it’s shine squashed into the smaller not-quite-square format. CDs will inevitably be replaced by downloads, if they haven’t already, (I don’t really know anybody who buys CDs any more), but what about all the cool ‘extras’ we’ve come to expect?
